About Me
Welcome!
I am a Ph.D. Candidate (ABD) and Instructor at the Center on Technology, Data and Society (CTDS) within the School of Public Affairs (SPA) at Arizona State University (ASU).
I am studying emerging AI-enabled technologies, particularly their societal implications on trust, justice, and privacy for public administration, technology policy, and urban innovation and governance. Using interdisciplinary theories and mixed methods, my three-essay dissertation investigates the increasing use of Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) in the context of smart cities, US local law enforcement, and digital tax, highlighting the responsible and ethical use of emerging technologies in public service provision and policymaking.
I won the 2024 Staats Emerging Scholars Award from the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration, the Dissertation Completion Fellowship (Spring 2024, $12,300) from the ASU’s Graduate College, the 2024 Outstanding Doctoral Student Award from SPA, the 2023 Outstanding Paper by a Doctoral Student Award from SPA, and the 2023 Social Justice Spotlight Award from Graduate Professional Student Association at ASU.
I grew up in Xinjiang, NW China, and moved to the Netherlands for college, where I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration (Cum Laude) and information management. Before starting my Ph.D. at ASU, I worked as an associate logistics engineer at Penske Logistics Europe. I also enjoy travel and pizzas~
